|Sonotne was a supplier of good quality tubes, at least at first. They manufactured many and bought some others from known quality manufacturers. Some credit Sonotone for re-inventing the 12AX7 into the useful tube audio enthusiasts have revered for decades. However, toward the end of their tube years they began importing tubes from Japan. Earlier, they did perfect the first vacuum tube hearing aid using sub-minature tubes. They were also well known for phonograph cartridges and needles. Sonotone was a small but upstanding company. They were at the fore-front of many technologies.|
The RETMA/EIA code was 787 and the JAN disignator was COZ. Tube writing was typically white or red. Some tubes came in a green box - I'm told these were the imported types.
